Why Choose an Electric Mower?
The electric mower is a very convenient product, which can be used as an alternative to the gas-powered mower. It is also a more environmentally friendly choice than its gas-powered counterpart.
The following reasons will help you decide whether an electric mower is right for you.
Electric mowers are more expensive than gas-powered models but cost less to operate over time because they don’t require gasoline or oil changes. They also produce no emissions, so you can use them in areas where gas-powered mowers aren’t allowed (like near pools or playgrounds).
Electric mowers produce no emissions, making them better for the environment than their traditional counterparts. Their engines don’t emit harmful fumes into the atmosphere, making them safer for those suffering from allergies or respiratory illnesses such as asthma or bronchitis.
Many homeowners with large yards opt for riding lawnmowers because they can cover more ground faster than push mowers; however, if your yard isn’t that big or if you don’t feel comfortable driving a large machine around residential streets, then an electric corded model may be preferable.
Since there’s no engine or fuel involved with an electric lawn mower, they tend to be much cheaper than gas-powered models. While there are some very expensive models out there, you can get a great electric mower for under $100!
Electric motors tend to be much quieter than gas engines so you won’t have to worry about waking up neighbors when cutting the grass early in the morning or late at night.
In addition to requiring no fuel or oil to operate, electric lawnmowers have a compact design so they’re easy to store in your garage.

“This mower is underrated. This is a completely different experience than a traditional gas mower. I mow 1/2-.75 acres on a hillside and charge the mower every 4-5 mowings. The mower is very stable on the hill. I have not experienced any errors with the mower when following the manufacturer’s instructions on charging it.”
The XT1 LT42E is one of the Best battery-powered electric lawnmowers on the market. With its 56-volt MAX, 60Ah, 3000Wh lithium-ion battery, I could mow up to two acres and get a full 1.5 hours of run time before running out of charge.
After unboxing, I found that the mower had a cup holder and dual LED headlights. However, the mulch kit wasn’t there, and you have to purchase that separately.

Also, there were LED lights on the front of this machine, making it easier for me to cut even at night.

Upon arrival, I got an electric lawn mower that was already assembled, with a seat and amazing wheels. However, as usual, there was no mulching kit here, so I had to purchase that separately.
I started this lawn mower using its push button. I like how this mower had an eco mode that allowed me to set the machine to its lowest power setting. I am hopeful that this mower will help me in conserving energy.
The ZT1 42E mower came with a lithium-ion battery power. Getting this battery into the mower and starting it was easy. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait minutes for the engine to warm up or deal with messy gas spills.
I loved how this mower was powered and had a digital battery gauge that let me know how much charge was left at a glance. This mower took less time charging and more time mowing which was the most amazing part here.
This mower also came with two brushless electric motors that provided extra torque and power when needed. What I adored here were the sensors that monitored the current draw to adjust automatically when required to save energy.
Everything on this lawn mower was built to perfection except for one thing: its complex controls. A professional would take no time adjusting to this electric lawn mower, but this would be a bit challenging for a beginner. For beginners, check out our review on the SCP21E–60V CORDLESS LAWN MOWER

The innovative lithium-ion battery technology with this one was amazing! It made me do a lot of things in less time.

I won’t suggest this one for more extensive lawns because the battery would run out quickly. However, for beginners, this is the perfect choice to mow lawns.
If you don’t want to spend much but still want to get an electric lawn mower, then your quest ends here. The CC30E is the perfect electric mower for the yard that’s just starting to get too big for a push mower.
When I unboxed it, I found it compact and handy. It had enough power to handle up to one acre of grass on my lawn. I didn’t expect this one to be too handy at this price point, but it was still easy enough to use without any challenge!
The CC30E came with a 56 Volt MAX lithium-ion battery, which gave it a run time of up to one hour. That means you won’t have to worry about charging it before you go out—plug in and go! I mowed my lawn for an hour, and the mower had enough charge to work for half an hour at least.
This mower also had a 30-inch deck and side discharge option, which helped me eliminate all the clippings without hassle. My garden had a lot of stubborn patches of weed, but thankfully this mower was a life savior. This machine had dual USB ports in the front, and I could charge my cell phone while mowing my lawn!
The CC30E had an automatic transmission with cruise control and an 18-inch turning radius for easy maneuverability around trees and shrubs. Plus, it had a LED headlight that helped me to see everything clearly at night or when it was dark outside.
This is one versatile little machine and the best battery-powered electric lawn mower on this list! However, there is a shortcoming: you must cut and trim grass before using this lawn mower. In short, longer grass threads were not able to be addressed by this lawn mower, but then at this price, I am more than happy to have this.
Factors to consider before buying the best electric lawn mower
If you’re tired of mowing your lawn, an electric mower may be the solution. Electric mowers are great for small yards and have many advantages over gas-powered models. However, there are some important considerations to keep in mind when choosing the best electric lawn mower.
Determine Your Lawn Size
The first step in selecting the right electric mower is determining the size of your yard. Decide whether you want a walk-behind or push model, then decide which features are most important to you based on the size of your lawn.
For example, if you have a large yard with lots of trees and shrubs, consider purchasing a self-propelled model that will make it easier to maneuver around obstacles without pushing it manually.
Look For Durability
If you’re going to be using an electric mower for several years, make sure it’s built to last by considering factors like durability and ease of maintenance.
Look for heavy-duty motors and sturdy frames so they can withstand repeated use and rough weather conditions. Also, check whether the parts are easy to replace or repair yourself if needed.
Some features that will help ensure that your electric mower lasts longer include:
- A sturdy metal frame (rather than plastic), which will prevent rusting and make it more durable overall;
- An automatic shutoff feature if the engine stalls (which prevents overheating); and
- Safety features such as a safety switch that prevents accidental start-ups when the mower is plugged in

Many people don’t like the idea of having to do maintenance on a lawn mower. However, it is something that needs to be done if you want your machine to last for years and years.
This is where cordless models really win out over corded models. With cordless models, there is no need for any type of external power source or electricity in order to use them.
This means that if something breaks down with these types of machines, you can simply replace it instead of having to take it in for repairs.
This makes them better than their competitor’s models because they are more durable and don’t require as much maintenance to keep them running smoothly.
There is one bit of maintenance that isn’t too difficult if you are a little handy around mechanical equipment and that is how to sharpen your mower blade.
If you have a large yard or lots of obstacles on your lawn, then battery runtime may be an important factor for you.
While most electric lawnmowers use a standard 100-volt outlet for power, some models offer additional features like built-in batteries that last longer between charges than others do.
The time it takes for your lawnmower to recharge its battery after each use is also something worth considering. Some models take up to 24 hours to recharge while others can do so in less than three hours.
If you have a large yard or lots of trimming to do, look for a model with a longer runtime so that you don’t have to stop so often to recharge its battery.
Performance and features
Most electric mowers offer similar performance as gas-powered ones, they cut grass just as effectively, but they’re generally less powerful and don’t last as long between charges as gas-powered models do between fill-ups.
You’ll probably have to charge the battery more often than you’d have to fill a gas tank, too (though some models have batteries that can be swapped out). You can read another article about mowers (Are zero-turn mowers good on hills?)
How Did I Test the Products?
To test all of the best electric lawn mowers for the garden here on the list I started off with my lawn. My first and foremost step was to have my lawn grown for a good time. I wanted to check the mowers on different lengths, so I ensured I had every length of grass in my yard.
First, I checked the starting mechanism of each electric lawn mower. Whether it was push and power design or any other. I wanted it to be as easy as possible so deciding this factor was essential for me too.
Next, I started with the tallest grasses in my yard and checked whether the blades were sharp enough to tackle them. When I was done with the tallest ones, I tried to check how maneuverability was at cutting down the shorter grass.
I checked how loud the engines were and whether the controlling options were easy enough for a beginner to start with. Besides, I also checked each mower’s energy consumption capacity and how long it ran in my yard.
After reviewing all the important features, I wanted to ensure that each electric lawnmower had comfortable, adjustable seating. Also, I wanted to have LED headlights, so this was another thing that I made sure every mower here had.
The final step for me was to check how heavy the machinery was. Because I had to store it in my garage, I tried to have something that was easy to move around and store while not in use.
Are electric lawnmowers powerful enough?
Since electric mowers are generally more affordable than gas mowers, they are a good choice for most lawns since they are more convenient. There is no doubt that mowing long and thick grass, or cutting wet grass, can overwhelm a low-power electric mower, so choose your mower carefully.
Is it safe to mow wet grass with an electric mower?
It is not safe to mow wet grass with an electric lawn mower. The blades of a lawn mower can be very dangerous, and you risk getting a shock if the electrical components are wet. If you use your electric lawn mower on wet grass, you could get electrocuted by making contact with the metal blade or by touching an extension cord.
Are electric lawnmowers hard to push?
An electric lawn mower is generally lighter than a gas-powered mower and easier to maneuver around trees and flowerbeds. However, if you’re going to use your electric mower on thick grass or tall weeds, it may not perform as well as a gas-powered mower.
I hope this article has been helpful to you in your search for the best electric lawn mower. I know it can be a complicated process with so many different options on the market. But if you’ve read through this and used the buying guide, I’m confident you’ll find just what you need to get the job done right. If you haven’t decided yet, let me share my favorite one.
